ductless air conditionerFor many homeowners looking to save on the cost of home maintenance, DIY is the way to go. This is probably a good approach for simple, basic repairs and installations.

However, it is not recommended for more complex and complicated tasks, such as the installation and repair of ductless HVAC systems. There are reasons why certain jobs should be left in the hands of trained and licensed professionals, both for the safety and comfort of your home. The earlier you realize this, the safer and more convenient it will be for you and your loved ones.

Correct Choice Of Unit Type And Size

Every home is unique, and the needs of homeowners make it more so. Choosing the right ductless HVAC type and size for your home is at best a guessing game if you do it yourself. You could make the right decision by chance, but you could also make a costly and damaging mistake by equal chance as well.

The wrong unit type and size can affect the efficiency and function of the ductless HVAC system. If it is too small, it may not be able to maintain the right temperature and level of comfort you require. If it is too big, you may be paying more money than you should.

A professional HVAC contractor can choose the right size and type of the unit that matches your home. An HVAC contractor will take precise measurements of your home and taking into consideration factors such as room size, number of doors and windows, types of walls, ceilings, and roofing, and level of insulation.

Correct Ductless Installation

professional ductless installA wrong move in a DIY installation can lead to damage and other costly issues. Many homeowners hope to save money and time by installing and repairing their ductless systems themselves. They are unaware that they could have saved more over the long term if they had hired a professional HVAC contractor to do the job.

Improper ductless installation does not only increase the inefficiency of the system; it can also be dangerous if done incorrectly. A trained HVAC professional can install the system correctly, the first time around.

Maintain Industry Standard & Ensure Quality

Industry standards are in place to maintain quality service and product manufacturing practices. Many HVAC professionals undergo additional training to ensure that their knowledge and skills are up-to-date. This allows them to develop the skills necessary to handle the design and function of new units and to meet the changing demands of their clients.

Most homeowners would probably recognize a NATE certification among HVAC technicians. In fact, many would demand that their technicians have it. NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence. It is the largest non-profit organization in the country that offers certification for technicians in HVACR (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration). Certification from NATE requires technicians to pass tests to prove their competency and knowledge in HVACR systems, including their ability to provide installation, inspection, repair, and other services. Professional HVAC technicians must be competent and knowledgeable to ensure that they do the right thing every time.

A Professional Ductless Install Will Keep Your Home Safe

Safety should be a priority in every home. Professional HVAC technicians have the training to ensure that the use, function, type, size, and installation procedures of the HVAC system all combine to keep the home safe and comfortable all year round. An HVAC professional follows the proper procedures when it comes to installing, checking, and repairing heating and cooling systems. These correct procedures, coupled with sufficient knowledge of the HVAC system will help prevent potential risks that could harm your property.

Prevent Unnecessary Risks With An HVAC Contractor

ductless hvacOther than mechanical and electrical issues, there are other problems that improperly installed ductless systems carry. Professional installations of ductless HVAC units ensure that the system is sealed properly, mainly to avoid leaks. However, proper sealing also brings additional safety to the home.

Small cracks, holes, and gaps where outlets are located can leave the home vulnerable to pollutants and outdoors creatures. If these gaps are just big enough, they can allow dust, dirt, smoke, pollen and other allergens into the home. This aspect increases risks that could ultimately harm the health of household members.

Furthermore, unsealed holes can be used as the access and egress points of small creatures such as rats, mice, and yes, even snakes. Rats and mice are attracted to small places where they can be safe from the elements and other predators. Snakes, lizards, and other small reptiles also prefer the cool, dark areas that every home offers. Uninvited guests such as these are not appreciated in most homes.

Snakes are commonplace in the Poconos region of Pennsylvania. Recently one of our HVAC technicians came across a dangerous situation while performing preventative maintenance on a ductless heating and cooling system. R.F. Ohl did not install the ductless system in the picture. We are not sure who installed it but they didn’t seal the line set holes going into the house. When Bob Schaffer, one of R.F. Ohl experienced technicians, went to do the maintenance on the system, he encountered a surprise! There was a living copperhead snake in one of the indoor units and snake skins in another. Bob did seal the holes to keep the snakes out of the heads. The snakes were crawling up the slim duct and into the indoor units.

Professional ductless installation by a trained and licensed HVAC contractor would ensure that they perform a thorough job. If you want to keep your home safe and secured, do the right thing and call a licensed HVAC professional.
