It’s Not Too Late To Have Your Heating System Serviced

servicing heating systemsEven though Spring is just around the corner, it’s not too late to have your heating system serviced.  While it’s preferable to get your system running at peak efficiency prior to the Fall and Winter seasons to maximize your fuel savings, we know that not everyone is able to get things done when we need to.

Get A Check-Up

We still have a couple months left of cold or cool weather that could provide us with several snow events.   Make sure your boiler, furnace, or heat pump are running at maximum efficiency by getting those systems serviced.  A routine heating system check-up will provide you with peace of mind that your system won’t leave you out in the cold for the remaining cold-weather months.

Boilers

A hot water based system, called a boiler, is one where hot water circulates through pipes in your house to each room.  Those rooms either have baseboards running along the base of some of the walls, or through radiators in the rooms.  These systems have a few different parts to maintain than their blown air counterparts.  The primary difference is that these systems heat up water inside a coil that then circulates throughout a closed-loop system of piping, i.e. the baseboards or radiators.

Furnaces

A blown hot air heating system generally requires some type of furnace to heat the air.  Unlike a boiler, these types of systems generally heat up a coil that heats up forced air from an air handler that blows across the coil, is warmed up, and is then blown throughout duct work that runs to each room.  Because of the air flow needed to distribute the heat, these systems require filters to make sure the air is clean as are the parts of the system.

Heat Pumps

A heat pump is essentially an electric furnace.  It’s a forced hot air system that uses electric as its fuel source.  Even though it’s electric, it’s no less imperative to have that serviced regularly.  In fact, because most heat pumps also provide central air conditioning, it’s even more important to get it serviced every 6 months to make sure both systems are in tip top shape throughout the year.

Regardless of the type of system you have, our technicians will check all of the components of your particular system to make sure everything is working properly.  He’ll test the efficiency of your unit to see how well the system is utilizing the fuel source. He’ll also check your air filter (if you have a forced air system) to make sure it’s clean and if not, will replace it.  Keeping your air filter clean all year long is the easiest way to ensure the longevity and efficiency of your heating system.

So, regardless of what time of year it is, keeping your heating system in optimal condition is the best way to make sure it saves you money on fuel costs and lasts you for many years.  And don’t forget, Spring is right around the corner!  So it’s not too early to get your air conditioning serviced as well or make preparations to install a new system.
