Northampton Area High School

Northampton Area School District has one secondary school in its jurisdiction and it is named the Northampton Area High School. It is located in the town of Northampton, PA, in the U.S. With an enrolment of exactly 2000 students, from the 9th through the 12th grades, the Senior High School has an average graduating class of 480 students. One of the most notable developments for this school is the recent renovations made for accommodating the ever increasing population and enrollment for the entire borough.

Programs of Studies

Furthermore, the High School is currently offering several programs of studies, which include Advanced Placement, College Preparatory, Honors, Applied Academics, and Vocational/Technical Studies through the Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School.

Meanwhile, there are also co-curricular activities that supplement academics. The list includes Athletics, DECA, Drama, Band, Chess Team, Chorus, Debate, French and German Club, FBLA, Gay-Straight Alliance, Orchestra, Science Olympiad, Scholastic Scrimmage, Spanish Club, Peer Helpers, Yearbook, and Student Council. Of them all, it is the DECA team which is prominent across the borough and the Lehigh Valley region.

The school newspaper is called the “Concrete Courier.” The Peer Helper program for its part is also making a big name, having received national recognition as well as numerous awards for giving assistance to students with special needs. For the secondary level, there are also interesting programs being offered like alternative education, at-risk, SAP or student assistance program, and counseling services.

School Athletics

Northampton High School is popularly known in the nation as having one of the finest wrestling programs. As a matter of fact, they currently boast two national titles, seven PIAA state championships, and 21 individual state champions for the different weight classes. With this in mind, it is rather fair to say that Northampton is one of the leading schools in the state of Pennsylvania when it comes to wrestling competition.

Also, Northampton High School regularly competes in the Lehigh Valley Conference, particularly in the District XI athletic division of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association. The entire athletic team is fondly called the “Koncrete Kids.” The misspelling is consciously done and is actually a reference to Northampton’s image as a primary U.S. manufacturer of cement.

But as previously mentioned the school is best known for its highly successful wrestling program. In fact, it is a regular in the nation’s best teams. Likewise, it is known for its long-time football tradition, highlighted by its rivalry with nearby Catasauqua High School. This tradition has been running for more than 80 years now.
