What To Do When My Monitor Heater Needs Parts, Service And Repair

If you have a Monitor heater, finding repair parts will be difficult and OEM parts are no longer available

Monitor heaters have been discontinued and because of this, many are wondering what options they have. Thankfully, there are solutions available to you. Monitor heaters have been popular in homes because they have provided an economical option to keep a good sized living space warm and comfortable during the cold season. Monitor space heaters became wildly popular when kerosene prices were at an all-time low. In the following article by Portland Press Herald, they discuss why the Monitor was so popular and why it has been discontinued:

By the mid-1990s, Maine had become the top American market for the super-efficient heaters imported by Monitor Products Inc. Soaring power rates had Mainers tearing out electric baseboards and looking for alternatives. Many residents chose the Monitor kerosene heater, and up to 75,000 homes and businesses are warmed by the units today.

The Japanese manufacturer, Hitachi, has stopped making the heater. Parts will be made at least through 2014, and warranties will be honored. But after dealers sell the units they have in stock, no more Monitor.

Also discontinued is the natural gas and propane version of the Monitor heater.

Naturally, those who own a Monitor heater question what options they have available to them if their Monitor heater should break down or need parts. There are three options available, based on the desired fuel source and the heating and comfort needs for your family and home.

Interested in keeping kerosene as a fuel?

Some homeowners are interested in keeping a kerosene heater in their homes because they have been using kerosene and prefer to not change. The Toyotomi heater is a great kerosene fueled option. R.F. UPDATE TO THIS POST (NOV 2018):

New Toyostove Monitor Installation Offer

Upgrade your fuel tank and get $500 off the installation of a new Toyostove heater. Please note, if your fuel tank is over 20 years old, it should be replaced. Financing options are available with approved credit.

In the following article by Portland Press Herald, they discuss how Toyotomi has given Monitor owners a great option since Monitor heaters are discontinued:

So it was a shock, three years ago, when the Japanese manufacturer, Hitachi, announced that it had stopped making Monitor heaters and would cease producing parts in 2014.

But now, markets have flipped, with some dealers offering cash-price kerosene below $2.40 a gallon today. That has reopened a sales window for Monitor’s lesser-known Japanese competitor, Toyotomi, which still makes the similar Toyostove Laser models. And it’s prompting thousands of Monitor owners to stay the course this winter – if they can keep their aging units operating.

Are you looking for extremely energy efficient and comfortable alternative to your Monitor heater?

the benefits of a Mitsubishi ductless split systemHomeowners that have a Monitor heater can also consider a Mitsubishi ductless split system as an alternative. It is probably the best alternative for a Monitor heater. It has many benefits and it is easy to install. Many homeowners who have converted to a Mitsubishi ductless split system are impressed at how energy-efficient it is. They are also enjoying the extreme levels of comfort that it provides while requiring such little maintenance and space. In the following post titled, “5 Advantages Of Ductless Cooling And Heating Systems” by Mitsubishi, they discuss some of the main benefits that you can experience when you convert to a ductless mini split system:

Whereas traditional heat pumps and central air conditioning systems force cooled and heated air through ducts, ductless systems deliver air directly into different zones. They are comprised of a small outdoor unit and one or more indoor units that require nothing more than mounting capabilities and access to electricity.

Sometimes referred to as split systems, multi-split systems, or split-ductless systems, ductless cooling and heating offers home and business owners a cost-effective way to replace inefficient window units, space heaters and electric baseboard heaters. They can be installed in home additions, new construction, condominiums and apartments, or to improve temperature control in specific rooms. Ductless systems can even be fit for buildings that currently use ducted forced-air systems.

A Mitsubishi ductless mini split system has been around for a long time and has withstood the test of time. It has proven to be both energy-efficient while providing extreme levels of comfort. Even though Monitor heaters have been discontinued, homeowners can still enjoy the same benefits and even more with these safe and energy-efficient alternatives.
