Electricity Management Systems
Electricity that comes to your home from a substation has characteristics that are not ideal for your home or business, namely a poor Power Factor (PF). A poor PF can result in wires and motors overheating, shortening the life of your appliances or equipment and putting your electrical system at risk. When the PF is improved, motors will be more efficient due to them starting with less stress and running cooler, thus prolonging their life expectancy.
If you experience any static 'noise' on your phone or TV, the XPS Electricity Management Systems may reduce or eliminate the static by reducing noise on the powerline. Powerline noise can also damage sensitive electronic equipment like computers, wireless devices and more. It can even cause data loss if phone lines or a cable service is used for an internet connection.
Lastly, the XPS manages voltage transients. These are parasitic voltage spikes created by electronic sources in your home or business. These voltage spikes, if not managed, can reduce the life expectancy of appliances and can even cause light bulbs to burn out prematurely.
Here's How It Works!
XPS Electricity Management Systems improve the Power Factor by reducing the amount of reactive power that the load draws from the utility company. This is accomplished by supplying the reactive power locally at the load by the use of specifically designed capacitors. These capacitors store the reactive power needed for stabilizing electric current within an inductive load. Therefore, the amount of reactive power purchased from the power company results in "lower utility costs if the power factor clause is enforced or the utility charges for the kVA demand."
Are XPS Systems Legal?
The answer is YES. Power factor optimization benefits the utility companies by the energy demands for portions of the grid. When the utility can't meet the energy demands of the grid, brown outs and in the worse case, black outs are the result.
